Kenya and the story of preserved flowers

Behind the story of preserved flowers lies a personal story.

It is said that a husband wanted to preserve the rose garden he had created for his wife. Whether we take this story as a legend or as part of the early experiments, it captures a simple human idea: the desire to make beauty last.

In the early 1980s, experiments in Kenya contributed to the development of a way to preserve fresh flowers by replacing part of their natural moisture with a special solution. This allows the flower to retain much of its natural appearance, texture and flexibility — but for much longer.

Unlike dried flowers, preserved flowers are treated while they are still fresh. They do not simply dry out, but retain their character.

And perhaps that is what makes the story so interesting.

Sometimes a technology begins with something very simple — the desire not to say goodbye to beauty so quickly.
